Executive Director Welcome
WELCOME TO HAVEN HOUSE’S NEW WEBSITE!
This website is an exciting innovation for Haven House.
Although Haven House was founded 44 years ago, I began my journey a mere 19 years ago. I remember my first day here and I looked around and wondered what am I doing here? I didn’t think I knew much about the subject of domestic violence but I guess the folks that interviewed me believed it when I told them that I was a quick study.
Haven House became my greatest passion (outside of my family). Since Haven House was the first shelter in the United States, I was determined to continue the legacy that had been handed to me and keep our programs new and innovative and the physical plant a place where all of the women could come here and feel “safe at home”.
Haven House exists to empower women to live their lives free of violence and abuse. The statistics are shocking and we have lived with them for many years. One of the programs we provide is prevention and education to children and teens. Our belief is that the one way we can break the cycle of violence is through the children. We provide that education to children from kindergarten through high school.
In order to provide the myriad of services to our clients, we depend on the generosity of the community. This past year has been a difficult one for everyone with a shaky economy and rising prices for the necessities of life. It is to the credit of many of our supporters that you have not forgotten Haven House.
Thank you.
