CHILDREN’S PROGRAM

Haven House

The Haven House Children’s Program has five primary goals to assist children who have been exposed to the trauma of domestic violence:

• Provide a place where children can be children
• Provide children with safety, support and clear limits
• Raise self-esteem of children and their mothers
• Provide education for prevention and intervention of substance abuse and family violence
• Renewal of healthy mother/child relationship

In a nurturing atmosphere, children are given the opportunity to discuss and learn more about themselves, their family situation and how they can begin to develop healthy coping skills. Haven House accepts Families with children, both male and female birth to seventeen years of age.  The Children’s Program offers a variety of services in which the children can participate, including:

• Substance Abuse Education Group
• Self Esteem Education
• A Window Between Worlds -  Art workshops for self-expression
• Parenting/Mommy & Me group
• Individual and Group Counseling (age appropriate)
• Holiday Celebrations/ Birthday’s/ Good-Bye Parties and Certificates of Appreciation
• Recreational Activities and Community Field Trips
• Daily Child Care (while mother’s are in counseling)
• Special Activities for Teenagers
• Accommodations for Children with Disabilities.

Children exposed to domestic violence often experience various emotions such as guilt, shame, anxiety and fear. Without help, these feelings can lead to poor school performance, isolation, substance abuse, aggressive behaviors and suicide.

Haven House is dedicated to helping women and children live safe, happy lives by providing a healthy environment in which they can thrive.  Our services are designed to empower, educate and support families as they recover from the devastating effects of domestic violence.

Haven House serves more than 140 children each year.  Our goal to end domestic violence needs the assistance of concerned individuals who want to make a difference in their community. You can help us put a stop to domestic violence. If you would like to support our programs and services, please consider becoming a volunteer or making a secure online donation….You can make a difference!
